As you may know, Apple has publicly released macOS 10.15 Catalina. Apple has made the decision to drop all 32-bit application support with this release, which impacts EndNote.
EndNote X9 has been extensively updated for macOS. If you already have EndNote X9, please install the X9.3.1update prior to installing macOS Catalina to avoid interruption in your workflow. To learn more about the updates to EndNote X9, please visithttps://support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-for-Mac-macOS-Catalina-Compatibility?language=en_US.
If you do not plan on upgrading to macOS Catalina, you can continue running your current version of EndNote.
If you are running EndNote X8 or earlier, we recommend upgrading to EndNote X9 as your current version will not work with macOS Catalina.
I took the bold step to update the operating system of my mac to Mojave not knowing if Endnote will work or not. So far I did not see any new problems wtih running. I installed Microsoft Word 2016 and Endnote x9 to continue my MS document works. The installation was fine, but when I tried to edit my Word doc with Endnote it was painfully slow taking 3-4 mins per one citation edit. The version of MS word for mac is 09) and Endnote X9 (Bld 3682 Thank you in advance.
Alternately, you may keep working on your current macOS version. For more details, please visithttps://support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-for-Mac-macOS-Catalina-Compatibility?language=en_US
When using a Mac, always use theFirefox web browser from Mozilla.
If you are trying to export references to EndNote on a Mac, the only reliable way to do this is by using Firefox.

Information for MOJAVEusers
There is an issue with the X9 Word add-in and Mojave, resulting in problems with CiteWhileYouWrite. More details and a fix are available via this link.
EndNote has released 64-bit EndNote program (X9.3.1) update to make EndNote desktop program as a cross-compatible on both Mac and Windows platforms. As all the older versions of EndNote program are 32-bit (X9.2, X9 and earlier versions), we cannot update X9.2 to X9.3.1 directly from the EndNote program due to the change in structure of the program. To fix this, you would need to uninstall and reinstall the EndNote X9 program with the latest installer file (X9.3.1).
Mac users must have the Catalina operating system on their computer.

Window Users:
Please follow the steps outlined in this link to uninstall the EndNote X9 program:
Once you have uninstalled the EndNote X9 program, reinstall version 9.3 by going to this CU OIT webpage. Make sure you copy the Product Key before beginning installation so you can simply paste it when required. Also, note that all Microsoft products must be closed for successful installation.
After successful installation, you have two options for accessing your existing libraries:
Option 1: I have a previously synced library.
If you have a synced library, once you have installed 9.3, open EndNote and create a new library (File --> New). You can name it whatever you like. Make sure to save it directly to your hard drive (no CU networked drives, or cloud drives, e.g., Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, etc. as the library will corrupt over time). Once saved, click the sync button in the EndNote toolbar (two arrows chasing each other). This should populate your new empty library with the library in the cloud.
Option 2: I just open my library, it has not been synced before.
When you open an existing library (created with EndNote 9.2 or earlier) with EndNote 9.3, EndNote will convert the library to the new version. The original library will be retained and can still be used with EndNote X9.2 or earlier.

Once the conversion is complete and the new converted library is opened, you can delete the old version or leave it as a back-up copy.
